Woodward Mill Elementary School PTA Nominating Committee is pleased to announce the nominees for your 2012-2013 PTA Board Co-President Hannah Dew Co-President Melissa Mitcham Co -Vice President Jill Davis Co-Vice President Cindy Watson Secretary Gina Gay Treasurer Marlis Nguyen Elections will be at our general PTA meeting Thursday, March 15th 2012 just prior to our Science Fair Any Questions may be directed to a Nominating Committee member or your current PTA board. The Georgia General Assembly meets for 40 days. On Day 30, Crossover Day, if a bill has not passed either the House or the Senate then it is considered dead. This coming Wednesday, Mar. 7, is Crossover Day. If a bill hasn’t passed out of committee by Day 28 it can’t get on the Rules calendar to be considered on the floor so if it hasn’t passed out of committee at this point then it is likely dead. There is always the possibility that the language of a bill may get appended to another bill but that doesn’t happen often. This week’s report will summarize the status of bills that recently passed or need to pass before Crossover Day. View this week’s report on the Legislative Committee page by clicking here.
Bear Cub’s Green CornerPlease support Woodward Mill’s No-Idling Zone and turn your car off while waiting to pick up your child(ren). Why should you support the no-idling effort?
Vehicle exhaust is harmful to everyone’s health, but it especially affects children who breathe more and at a faster rate than adults. By turning off your car, our students, teachers and parents won’t breathe in unhealthy fumes as they enter school.
Vehicle idling creates unnecessary pollution. By not idling, you reduce car exhaust and prevent up to 3 pounds of pollution per month from going into the air.
A popular misconception is that idling your car uses less gas than turning it off and restarting. The truth is, if you are going to be sitting more than 30 seconds, it is more fuel efficient to turn your engine off. Idling also causes more wear and tear on engine parts. Parents dropping off or picking up their children can see “No Idling: Young Lungs at Work” signs posted in the carpool lanes. The No-Idling Zone is part of our involvement with the Clean Air Schools program, in partnership with The Clean Air Campaign. Through this program, we are working to protect the health of our students and the health of our environment, and we ask you to show your support by turning off your engine. Woodward Mill Elementary has also adopted a no-idling policy for our school buses, greatly restricting the idling time on school grounds. So, if you’re going to be sitting still for more than 30 seconds, please remember to turn your car’s engine off. You’ll not only improve our air, you’ll also save money in fuel and vehicle wear and tear costs!
